She gladly pulled into an empty parking space that was close to the feed store's door. It was icy, and she had a hard time getting out. Clumsily she shoved the key into the lock and the little knobs by the windows popped down. Her cold fingers grabbed her purse as she entered the warm store.
"Hi!" she called to the friendly store owners. They waved and smiled back. It seemed that Mr. Dougan was doing taxes. Marilyn hated them too, and smiled to herself. Well, she first she went to the dog food section. She thought that some puppy dry food would be best, due to the fact that Dessy was almost a year old. So she placed that in her shopping cart and went on down the dog isle. Next she picked out a can of treats that Dessy would like.
Now Marilyn ventured into the part where she could get rabbit food. She got a smaller bag of grain, wanting to keep Beth's diet mostly fine hay. And so she bought a bale of hay, too, that was wrapped in tarp. She knew what a pain it was to have a trail of hay leading around. With a bottle of bunny treats placed into the red cart last, she headed to check out.
"Well, it looks like you've got a few animals now, Marilyn dear?" Mrs. Dougan said kindly. She was placing the feed in a bag after she had rung it up. "Yes, I bought Beth and Destiny today," she said and took the bag from Mrs. Dougan's outstretched hand. "Thank you, Mrs. Dougan!" Marilyn called over her shoulder as she entered the cold winds. The aging lady waved with a large grin, then went to help her spouse with the accounting.
